Description |
Fraktur Quilt in a 5 x 5 block layout in the Rolling Stone pattern. Each block averages 10.50" x 10.50" and is made of various printed yellow and printed red cottons with a plain cream cotton square in the center and a handwritten name in ink. Separating each block is a 4.375" wide sashing made of a double blue printed cotton and a intersectecting block made of a red and yellow square in square block. The center is surrounded by a double border of an applied printed yellow border and a plain red cotton border, both averaging 3/4" wide. The surrounding wider border is 7.25" and made of the same printed blue cotton. The outer triple border is only on the right, left and bottom edge and is of two strips of printed yellow cotton and red cotton, both averaging 3/4" wide. The right, left and bottom edge has a butted binding, while the top has a 1/8" wide foldover binding from back to front. The back is of a double blue printed cotton. The quilt was made for Angelina Ritter (1834-1900), just four years before she married Addison S. Mohry in 1856. Purchased from Victoria Hoffman in 2003. This quilt was documented in the Goschenhoppen Quilt Survey. |
