Description |
A handspun natural linen sampler of a modified mirrored layout of silk cross-stitched embroidery. In the center is the maker's name "Elizabeth Leatherman" and the year "1842" encircled in a halo. Near the top are the initials "A.L" and "C.L." flanked by two red birds. On both the right and left side are the initials "S.L." highlighted by a tree and floral embroidery. At the bottom is the "OEHBDDE" motif. There is an embroidered vine border surrounding the entire central embroidery. Other motifs included are stars, various flowers and peacocks. There is a 1/8" foldover hem on the right and left side. |
