Description |
This figured and fancy coverlet has been woven into one panel using natural cotton and yellow, green, blue and red wool. The predominate motif is feather wreath design in the center surrounded by triangles in rows of differentiating colors. There is an 8.00" wide floral pattern border on the right and left edge. There is a 9.750" wide leaf and floral pattern border on the bottom edge. At each lower corner there is a 8.250" x 9.250" cornerstone, one reads: "MADE BY J. HAUSMAN LOBACHSVILLE. PA. 1855" while the other reads: "MADE BY J. HAUSMAN LOBACHSVILLE." |
Provenance |
Woven by Jacob M. Hausman (1788-1863) a weaver based out of Trexlertown, Lehigh County and later Lobachsville, Berks County. He was married to Maria "Mary" (Reinhart) Hausman (1793-1879). Jacob was the son of weaver, Johan K. Hausman (1764-1838) and brother to fellow weavers, Benjamin M. (1799-?) and Soloman M. Hausman (1794-1866). |
