Description A man's frock coat comprised of black wool serge. The coat has notched lapels with a high three button closure (one button is missing). There is a waist seam present, where the coat cuts away with rounded sides. At the back, there is princess seaming that meets the single vent. There are two decorative buttons attached which flank the slit. There is a tail pocket located on the proper right side and lined in glazed brown cotton. The coat is lined in a black striped silk with the upper half featuring machine quilting. There is also an inside right chest slit pocket. The coat is machine constructed with hand finishing details.
Provenance Worn by Henry F. Goettel (1857-1931) at his March 8, 1879 wedding to Amelia H. Miller (1860-1951). Henry was a teacher at Sumneytown Academy, and the couple resided in Sumneytown, Montgomery County.
