Description A needlework picture comprised of a natural plain weave cotton ground with an embroidered taufschein of Elisabeth Koepler. Use of silk and cotton thread for various motifs, including a centralized framed inscription, flanked by three typical taufschein figures and garlands of tulips and daisies at the top, small cherry trees, confronting birds placed at the midline and other flower garlands located beneath the inscription. Located above the central embroidery is a framed panel of natural plain weave cotton with the date "1830" and the letters "F" and "K" in ornate script lettering. In the center, the outlined inscription reads:

"Geburts und Taufschein

Diese Bede Ebegotten Usf Jacob Kobler
und seiner ehelichen Hausfrau Christina
eine gebohren Kerchnern ist ein Tochterzur
Wekt gebohren den 9 ten Tag October
im Jahr unserz Herrn 1776 Diese
Tochter ist genauft wordern und erhiest
den Namen Elisabeth die Taufzeugen
Waren Philip Wint und Elisabeth

"These two honestly married people Jacob Kobler
and his married house wife Christina
born a Kerschner had a daughter
born into this world on the 9th of October
in the year of our Lord 1776. This
daughter was baptized and received
the name Elisabeth. The sponsors
in baptism were Philip Wint and Elisabeth Knople."

The needlework picture has been mounted and framed.
Provenance Made by Elisabeth Koepler [Kobler], but there is no additional information about the maker or origin of this piece. The only information found was about the witness Philip M. Wint (1786-1865). He resided in Upper Saucon Township, Lehigh County.
